Academic Projects
In my major, all classes are designed to teach me how to apply core engineering principles to biological systems. As engineers, we need to know how to efficiently communicate through visuals, speeches, reports, sketches, etc. Here are some of my projects that helped me with these skills.

1 cherry tree with 4 baskets. Each basket was a specific fraction

Fusion360 drawing of our cherry trees

We interacted with the 3rd graders and showed them how to use "Growl's Garden" to understand fractions

For this project, our group was tasked with creating a STEM project to help 3rd graders better understand a concept that it taught to them through the LSS (Louisiana Student Standards). We used Fusion 360 to draft and 3-D print our model for the students at the Dufrocq School to use and learn the LSS concept. We noticed fractions was a topic the students struggled with, and decided to create “Growl’s Garden.” Click here to read our group’s final report & here to watch our presentation (Minutes 0:04-0:16, 0:20-1:16)
BE 1251 - Introduction to Engineering Methods
BE 3340 - Process Design
In this course, we were tasked with researching, analyzing, designing, and carrying out the process of creating xanthan gum. Through using LSU’s library and databases, I had to read and analyze multiple papers on how to create xanthan gum. This was a complex process since the fermentation step is the hardest to get under control. Luckily, we all learned new aspects of process design in the classroom as well as through the use of the software SuperPro. If you want to read more about, click here to read our research paper!

Along with my classmate, we taught how to measure the volume of multiple box shapes

In this course, we covered the the principles of physical properties of biological materials as well as their relationships with the design of engineering processes dealing with these biological materials. For this class, we created a five-member team that has to work together in order to develop, research, and enact a plan to help expose fifth-grade students to the geometrical property of volume. This involved not only teamwork but also problem-solving and communication as we had to work as a team to figure out the most efficient, concise way to present digestible information for a fifth grader. BE 4303 -Engineering Properties of Biological Materials
BE 4390 & 4392: Senior Engineering Design II
In the Fall of 2025 and Spring of 2026, I will be working along my Senior Design Team to manufacture a dental crown removal device. Our goal is to create a functional molar crown-removal device (for adults) that securely attaches to the crown, so that it can be used on both the maxillary and mandibular arches in the mouth. The device needs to be able to overcome the bond strength of the dental cement (which holds the crown in place), reduce the procedure time for the dentist, eliminate procedure redundancy, and preserve healthy tooth structure for the patient. Manufacturing and testing will be conducted in the Spring Semester of 2026, with a final presentation and report. Click here to view our midterm presentation.

To calm off the nerves, our group wanted to take a picture to remember this significant milestone: midterm presentation!

Because our device is little, we decided to make a 10x version of it so that the audience and judges could see it better.

In order to comprehend how our device works, my group members wanted to measure my lower molar's length. This helped us in determine how wide our device's legs would have to be

Other Projects
German I - Ich Bin
Halo! Ich heise Laura and ich wohne Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I had the opportunity to take elementary German and was amazed at this language's complexity. For our final project, we had to speak about ourselves for about a minute, and use key verbs and words.
BE 2350 - Don Cangrejo
In this class, we worked with circuits, learned how to use Eagle and created a TinkerCAD schematic. For our final project, we created a switch-adapted device and measurement system to teach music to pre-K students with a disability. Click on the image to see our final presentation
BIOL 2083 - Protein Project
This was my favorite class outside the biological engineering curriculum. In this class, we learned about proteins, enzymes, glycolysis, and how our body naturally undergoes processes we don't think about. For our final project, we had to investigate a protein and see how a mutation would affect its functionality. Click on the image to see my paper
CHE 4220 - Research Paper
Are you interested in the future use of the Bacillus subtilis? To your surprise, I really was and in my genetic engineering class, we were tasked to demonstrate our understanding of a research paper in this academic world. Click on the image to see what future antibiotics might contain this bacteria!

My partner, Alma, and I designed a switch-adapted device that moves and plays a song that the kids at the school knew

We designed this button in Fusion360 and had it 3D printed.
